New Year’s Day was always celebrated in my household when I was a child with a (decidedly) homemade gingerbread house. I looked forward to the day and really enjoyed seeing all the parts and pieces magically coming together to make the house including the NECCO wafer shingles (or mints in this instance) the gumdrop path and bushes and the candy cane entrance. I loved sprinkling the powdered sugar "snow" on top of everything as a finale. I adore the taste of gingerbread and think it fits the season so well. It reminds me that I should try to make one of these although I have a feeling mine might fall down immediately!
