Installed in 1992, “Alley History” by Kerry Moosman is among the oldest public artworks still on display in Boise’s downtown. Consisting of glazed and painted ceramic slabs, the imagery of this work includes fragments of old advertisements, imagery from popular culture, and Chinese characters. This artwork was commissioned by the City of Boise and funded by CCDC. The images of this artwork are intentionally fragmented, as if layered over each other throughout the decades revealing some of Boise’s history alongside more modern eras. Interestingly, when this area of wall was being prepared for the installation of this work, historic advertisements, such as the Coca Cola logo, were found under layers of paint. This discovery was incorporated into the final artwork!
