Urban sprawl can be ugly and chaotic if not carefully planned. Each time a little pop of art is inserted into the chaos, it brings a much-needed rest or pause, much like a rest in a musical composition. The traffic boxes covered in artwork are that pause. They allow time to regroup and look at the surrounding area with new eyes, perhaps without even being conscious of the exposure. The unconscious mind stores experience and has great influence on behavior and actions. Connie Wood has experienced firsthand how the arts can transform an individual, having spent two decades of her life teaching art to children. Wood has watched personalities transform from when a young mind is deeply involved with creating and have witnessed the blossoming of talent and growth. Examples such as the refugee children that came from horrific war experiences and found solace in her classroom. They found escape and comfort in their artwork. Students that she's kept in touch with have gone on to be such powerful contributing adults with art related careers. Since retiring from teaching Wood still feels she has a responsibility to share the arts, stating, she now has the good fortune to spend her days in her studio creating.
