Artist Gracieux Baraka sees his sister Francine reflected in the life of Erma Hayman. At first glance, both women lived in the River Street neighborhood, raised three children, and were pillars of strength for their families and communities. Upon even deeper reflection, while both embraced support and service for others, they each maintained a strong commitment to living life on their own terms. In many ways, Mrs. Hayman and Francine are parallels, mirroring each other through time, united in moments of grief, love, and joy. This mural honors them both, and all Black daughters in Boise. One banner is located at the Erma Hayman House while the other two are located at the Boise Public Library.
