Since he moved to Boise in 1975, artist John Taye was interested in and enjoyed the varied architectural forms, colors, and contrasts in the Downtown area. "Downtown Duo" is one of 14 paintings from a 1978 exhibition by Taye which depict "the changing facets of the Downtown environment. Taye said "There are always a lot of surprises of bright color in the signs and storefronts, and the almost too-blue skies add to a very colorful situation." This painting depicts the Idaho State Capitol Building and the Adelmann's Building.
