The traffic box on Broad and 6th Street sits in front of the FACES of Hope Victim Center building. The center provides support to victims of violence through its various resources. The artwork created for the traffic box is heavily inspired by the idea that often for hope to be seen in the midst of a difficult situation, a person must embody resilience in some manner. Oftentimes with hope, it is something not so easily visible and occasionally found where we may not expect it to be. Fragments of happenings or events may also sometimes offer us slivers of hope, although the entire picture of a solution may seem obscure or incomplete at the moment. The promise of how the entire picture could become any better may seem farfetched from the perspective of the person, but the pieces of hope given in the present moment may become something to grasp onto –in order to continue moving forward when obstacles are evident. The traffic box therefore includes imagery that is often used as symbols for either resiliency or for transformation. The traffic box on Broad and 6th Street provides positivity to those who have perhaps come from a tough situation. For You is dedicated to all of those women, men, and children who have or are experiencing violence in some way. It’s a reminder that it is possible to move ahead and encounter the world accepting the gifts that life does continue to offer us.
