In the woods of my Pacific Northwest childhood, something unrecorded happened. The botanical world sparked a connection that influences my photography and creative voice today. It still speaks in the images I capture with my camera, inspiring me to show what makes botanicals uniquely positioned to reveal the moments in nature that connect us to our planet. The lushness of the Northwest forest showed me plant details, the effect of light in the woods, and how rain deepened the color of the forest. Light changes quickly and with it, colors, shadow, depth… with only photography capturing these quickly changing moments. However, processing an image becomes almost as exciting as being out in the field because the edits reflect my mood and artistic style. There was no escaping the influence of my family’s Dutch background with its lineage of artists, florists, and gardeners. I consumed and grew in plant knowledge, conservation, and film photography from a young age fed by those around me.
