Leslie Dixon's Elk series is inspired by the late, lamented Ernie the Elk. When he wandered down and joined the cows over along Warm Springs two years ago, he brought a bit of wonder with him and the idea that we weren’t all that far removed in time from when herds of elk must have traversed this valley. These paintings start with “Overpass Elk” moving from the most urbanized part of town, continuing with “Street Elk” heading east through the center until “Park Elk” arrives at Julia Davis Parks grand aisle of trees. Dixon is planning a fourth in the series showing “Greenbelt Elk” moving up the path and into the sage.
