This photography captures the thrill of riding on a river wave, showcasing the vibrant surf culture that has emerged in Boise. With the introduction of a surf wave in 2012, the city has transformed into a surf town, offering a year-round, accessible, and affordable activity for locals and visitors alike. The Boise River, long a centerpiece of recreation, now complements various activities with its public wave, unlike costly man-made alternatives. At Whitewater Park’s surf feature, a diverse mix of participants—from children to professionals—share the wave, creating a lively community atmosphere. This recreational area, also encompassing Boise's Greenbelt, attracts bikers, walkers, and spectators eager to witness surfers of all skill levels. While river surfing began in 1972 on the Eisbach River in Munich, Boise’s own surfing culture is steadily drawing attention from enthusiasts across the West.
