"Lorelle Rau is a cut paper, collage artist living and working in Boise, Idaho. Lorelle utilizes found paper, appropriated imagery, and photography to investigate concepts of nature and place. Her work reveals the transformative qualities of nature, specifically the rich contours and textures of the landscape and the constant change it undergoes. Lorelle's creative process strives to integrate the spontaneity of the natural world, which is evidence of time spent in the backcountry. When hiking through the meandering trails of Idaho, form, color, and pattern surround her, and the vastness of space consumes her. Line allows her to study the landscape at a distance; texture permits her to investigate her surroundings more deeply. Using cut paper silhouettes of flora found in the Boise Foothills, Tangled Grace explores shapes formed by contour lines on topographic maps and how they visually relate to shapes repeatedly found in nature. The repetition of abstracted nature forms in her work suggests that there is order found in the chaos of nature and our everyday surroundings." - Lorelle Rau
