Artists Annika Kalac and Will Miller envision a future in which the Boise Depot is a central hub for travel in and out of Boise, and is surrounded by high-speed railways, buses, streetcars, bicycles and airships. They yearn for wonderous transportation systems where air travel feels like sailing, bullet trains speed across the country, streetcars retake our city streets, and we have abandoned the headaches of intercity driving. Inspired by the romanticized reputation of Western life, Kalac and Miller see elegance and excitement in voyaging, a whimsical experience to be embraced alongside strangers and neighbors alike. The projections took place during the Depot's Centennial Celebration from April 13-16, 2025, each night consisting of a different projection series. CITY LIFE: Watch downtown Boise bustle with bikes, trolleys, and buses. The city is alive and vibrant with past, present, and future modes of transportation. THE COMMUTE: Imagine swapping early morning traffic for a lively bicycle ride, a speedy bus, or a hot air balloon. Visit with your neighbors as you sail through the Treasure Valley on a gentle blimp. TRAVEL: Going beyond local recreation? Join a rocket launch from the Boise spaceport at dawn. Imagine zeppelins, planes, and trains, crisscrossing Idaho and beyond. ADVENTURE: Imagine an airship setting up camp in a sagebrush sea, or a slow and quiet blimp allowing you to observe wildlife in the Owyhee canyonlands.
