For thousands of years, Indigenous people have called the Boise Valley home. Today it remains the traditional, ancestral, cultural, and unceded territory of the Shoshone, Bannock, and Northern Paiute peoples. After the arrival of Euro-Americans, Boise City was founded on July 7, 1863, and it quickly grew from an unincorporated village to a thriving capital city. Boise’s earliest years, however, were marked by political struggles and debate over the usefulness of city government, with many advocating for having no municipal government at all. On this history hike, discover how these stories, and more, serve as the foundation for the Boise we know today.
This tour is free and open to the public with registration required. REGISTER HERE.
Participants should meet at the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Family Foundation Bike Park (750 Mountain Cove Rd.) and be prepared to hike 2 miles on both paved and uneven ground along Eagle Ridge Trail. Participants should wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for weather conditions. Everyone is encouraged to bring water and snacks and be prepared to pack out their trash. While dogs are welcome on this tour, they should remain leashed.
In case of inclement weather, registered participants will be notified via email on the morning of the event with more information.
