Join the Dept. of Arts & History for three tours of the Vista Neighborhood, led by historian Barbara Perry Bauer. The neighborhood, bisected by irrigation canals and on the route of the Hillcrest streetcar loop, developed from farmland into a booming residential and commercial suburb in the 1950s and 1960s. It has an eclectic mix of architecture including farm houses, Craftsman style bungalows, Tudor Revival Houses and commercial businesses. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water to tour vintage Vista.
If you are driving, please park in the lot for the Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute.
August 10 (Canal Street, S. Columbus & Norcrest Drive) Tour includes:
· Early farms (two remaining farm houses on Canal Street)
· Neighborhood transition and change during the 1950s
· Mid-century houses
