In Contrappunto (Counterpoint), Sicilian artist Giuseppe Licari addresses the rapid and tempest after effects of forest fires with a life size, site specific installation portraying the devastation of a burnt forest contrasted by the ready-made confines of the gallery setting.

With materials taken from the Boise National Forest and Table Rock, Licari conjures discernment of the devestating Pioneer Fire by placing visitors within a situation that is a regulation of forces, economical and regenitive. Through visual and multimedia representation his work coalesces organic settings and implications of contemporary society. With historical and traditional references of a location incite the artist to create communal settings for individual reflection on the role the hand of man plays on the makeup of the `natural´ world and ownership of the landscape.
