Adapted from Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 play of the same name.

A Streetcar Named Desire tells the story of a southern belle, Blanche DuBois, who, after encountering a series of personal losses, leaves her aristocratic background seeking refuge with her sister and brother-in-law in a cramped and dilapidated New Orleans tenement. Dark truths about her past collide with the stark reality of the present, leading to a downward spiral of domestic violence, degradation and madness.

The opera, adapted from Tennessee Williams’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name, will be conducted by Sun Valley Summer Symphony Music Director Alasdair Neale and will feature soprano Julie Adams in the role of Blanche DuBois, baritone Gregory Gerbrandt as Stanley Kowalski, soprano Micaëla Oeste as Stella Kowalski and tenor Casey Candebat as Harold “Mitch” Mitchell. All of the artists have successfully performed the roles with other opera companies including the Merola Opera Program and Opera Santa Barbara. The production will be directed by Walker Lewis.
