Boise residents and members of the public invited to help capture the early story of the Boise Depot.
Boise, ID – The City of Boise’s Department of Arts & History, in partnership with Boise Parks and Recreation, invites Boise residents and members of the public to help uncover the rich history and untold stories of one of Boise’s most iconic landmarks.
In preparation for the Boise Depot’s centennial planned for April 12-16, 2025, the project seeks to identify, collect, and make accessible photographs, artifacts, and ephemera that capture the early story of the depot. Information and materials collected may aid the city in preparing digital collections, exhibits, and public programs to be featured at the Boise Depot Centennial community celebration and in the future.
The goals of the project are to identify materials and objects that expand our understanding of:
- The construction of the depot or laying of the tracks.
- The neighborhood prior to the depot construction, including businesses such as the Baxter Foundry.
- The development and dedication of the Platt Gardens.
- The growth of the neighborhood from 1925 to 1970s.
- Employees of the depot such as a red cap or porter, engineers, and tickets or shop merchants.
- The Red Cross Canteen during World War II.
- Commerce
- Travel
