Artists on Contract 2011

The City of Boise invites artists to submit applications for the opportunity to be one of up to six artists on an on-call contract to design and fabricate public artworks for Boise. Budgets range from $1,000 to $25,000 per project. Artist of diverse skill-sets working in a variety of mediums are sought. This project is open to artists nationwide, however due to project cost restraints and the necessity of frequent on-site meetings, artist proximity to the Boise Metropolitan area will be a factor in the selection process.

Application Deadline:   February 2, 2pm.

Once registered, go to:

http://www.cityofboise.org/purchasing/ and click on the RFP/RFQ/Bids link.

Then download the project documents. Apply according to the directions in the application.

Selected artists will enter into a general pre-qualified contract with the City for one year with the possibility of two additional one-year renewals. No funds are paid up front to artists on contract, but individual projects with various budgets will be separately negotiated through task orders with selected artists through A & H. Types of services artists may be asked to perform include, but are not limited to: meeting with City staff and neighborhood representatives, site-specific research, designing artworks, creating proposal narratives, making drawings and/or models, drafting budgets, fabrication, installation, presenting to community groups or City-affiliated groups, and project management.

Artist Workshop to prepare application:

Public art staff will conduct a one-hour artist workshop for artists interested in applying on Tuesday, January 11th, 5:00 pm in the Foothills Conference Room on the first floor, east wing of Boise City Hall. The Department of Arts and History was established by City Ordinance in March 2008 to enhance the Boise community by providing leadership, advocacy, education, services, and support for arts and history. The new Department emerged from the former Boise City Arts Commission, which was established by City Ordinance in 1978 as a nonprofit city agency to advise and assist the City Council in development, coordination, promotion and support of the arts.
