February 15, 2011

BOISE, ID- The Boise City Department of Arts & History introduces a new Performing Arts for Cultural & Community Celebrations mini-grant program. This $12,000 pilot grant program provides funds specifically for hiring performing artists and for associated costs, such as renting sound and stage equipment. The grant program opens February 7, 2011; applications are due March 11, 2011.

Applicants can request funding for between $500 and $2000 for events that will take place between May 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011. Neighborhood groups, cultural organizations, artists' collectives, and other organizers who have a sincere interest in creating or continuing existing community celebrations and events are encouraged to apply. In order to qualify, the performance component of the event must be free to the public up to the capacity for the venue.

Amy Fackler, Cultural Programs Manager for the Department, explains the new mini-grant fund as follows: "This initiative is an attempt to leverage our limited funds by helping those who are earnestly working toward creating community-building celebrations and events while concurrently expanding paid performance opportunities throughout Boise for the many talented artists in our community."
