8th St. Marketplace Artists in Residence - First Thursday Open Studios

BOISE, ID-  8th St. Marketplace Artists in Residence will host open studios for the public on First Thursday, June 7, 2012.  All five studios will offer displays of new artwork. Additionally, Idaho Book Arts Guild will host a free workshop on the construction of pop-up books.

STUDIO SHOWCASE

MOXLEY STUDIO
Mercantile Suite 201, 8th & Broad, East side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
*Additional hours June 9, 2012 10am - 4pm.

Star Moxley, installation artist, will exhibit new work titled "If I were.......I would...", the third installation from The Box Project.
 
RANDAL STUDIO
Mercantile Suite L138, 8th & Broad, East side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
Seth Randal shares stories of civilian lives impacted by the Battle of Wake Island. Highlights include clips from a documentary film in progress, a handmade Wake Island flag made by Boise seamstress Susan McPeek, a vintage 48-star U.S. flag, 1940s newspapers and drawings of the POW experience.
 
MASTERSON, SCHIFFLER, BURKES STUDIO
Northrup Suite 295, 8th & Broad, West Side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
Cassandra Schiffler will host a solo exhibition of new abstract artwork. The artist will offer a hands-on interactive display allowing visitors to create new compositions out of hand painted blocks.

IDAHO BOOKARTS GUILD (IBAG) STUDIO
Northrup Building, 8th & Broad, West Side of 8th Street, 5pm-9pm
IBAG members will demonstrate how to construct a variety of pop-up books during a free drop-in workshop. The studio will additionally offer installations of papermaking, paste paper creation and the history of bookarts.

KERSHAW STUDIO
Renewal Underground, 517 S. 8th Street between Myrtle & Fulton, 5pm-9pm
See Mylar Madness, a large installation made from VHS tape and other new works made from recycled and found objects by Adrian Kershaw.

The 8th St Marketplace Artists in Residence (AiR) program selects emerging and established artists for six-month residencies in donated downtown Boise commercial office spaces. AiR originated in the 8th Street Marketplace, which continues offering space in the Mercantile and Northrup buildings; the program also expanded to an additional site in the Renewal "Underground" at 8th and Fulton. The Boise City Department of Arts & History administers the AiR program and works in partnership with property owners Ephraim Greenwall, G. Square Companies, and the Boise Weekly.
