The Boise City Department of Arts & History seeks written
submissions for a book compilation of contemporary and historical
"snapshots" about the city that will be published in conjunction
with the commemoration of the City's sesquicentennial in 2013 --
BOISE 150 (more at Boise150.org). In order to be
considered, entries should focus on one or more of the BOISE 150
concepts: Enterprise, Environment, and Community. The Department
will begin distributing the book in July 2013.
"Anyone, of any age, from anywhere is invited to submit an entry,"
says Terri Schorzman, director of the Department of Arts &
History.
Applicants may choose from two tracks:
- A writer may submit original material, such as an essay, poem, short story or historical account; or
- A sponsor may submit material written by someone else, such as excerpts from an historic letter, a memoir, or an interview.
"We have heard of people finding boxes in attics that contain
intriguing letters and photos about Boise's early days, which is
very exciting. We must have many such potential sources for
compelling stories in our community. We also know Boise is
fortunate to have outstanding writers, historians, researchers, and
eager participants of all backgrounds -- and we encourage them to
submit entries that provide a snapshot of life in Boise at a
particular point in time."
The book will also contain images from the department's collection
as well as from selected applicants who submit an image that
correlates with their written entry.
Applicants can submit their entries electronically HERE by
September 15, 2012.
