Introduces a New Boise Poet Laureate Program
The Boise City Department of Arts & History is accepting applications for the first Boise Poet Laureate. The Poet Laureate will serve during the city's sesquicentennial (BOISE 150) in 2013. BOISE 150 will offer events and subject matter for the Poet Laureate to consider when creating new work, grouped around three themes: Community, Environment and Enterprise (see below for theme definitions).
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must reside within the city limits of Boise, Idaho, for the duration of their service as Poet Laureate (one-year term). To be considered, applicants must have a body of published poetry and/or honors received in live poetry competition.

- Completed Application Form: (included at the end of the document)
- Resume: Maximum two pages, including a brief description of activities as poet, proof of recognition as a poet, and educational background
- Letter of Interest: Describe in 800 words or less your vision of your role as Boise Poet Laureate and explain why being the city's Poet Laureate would be meaningful and what you will offer the citizens of Boise.
- Writing Sample: Three examples of previous work similar in style and approach to work proposed to produce during service as Poet Laureate.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Boise Poet Laureate will create and read three new works pertinent to BOISE 150 themes at selected BOISE 150 events. The Poet Laureate will also present a reading and discussion of work as part of National Poetry Month in April in the Sesqui-Shop (BOISE 150 headquarters). There may be other specially identified opportunities as well.
BUDGET: The Poet Laureate will receive an honorarium of $2,000 for one year of service, Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2013. The poet will receive payment in four increments: $500 at signing of contract, and $500 each at the submission and presentation of three poems.

ABOUT BOISE CITY DEPT. OF ARTS & HISTORY:
The Department of Arts & History was established by City Ordinance in March 2008 to enhance the Boise community by providing leadership, advocacy, education, services, and support for arts and history. The new Department emerged from the former Boise City Arts Commission, which was established by City Ordinance in 1978 as a nonprofit city agency to advise and assist the City Council in development, coordination, promotion and support of the arts.
